The Skywatcher Virtuoso 130P is a GoTo Dobsonian style telescope with a 5 inch mirror (130mm) and a focal length of 650 mm giving an F/ratio of 5.

The Skywatcher Dobsonian Base with roller bearings includes built-in WiFi for complete GoTo telescope control. All you need is a smartphone and the free Sky-Watcher SynScan app for iOS and Android. Using the base's GoTo technology and the SynScan app, you can access a database of over 10,000 night sky objects. These objects include Messier, NGC, IC, and Caldwell catalogs. All you need to do is align the stars using one of the four different alignment options: One-Star, Brightest Star, North-Level Alignment, and Three Star. Once aligned, the GTi computer will precisely track objects. Like many GoTo telescopes that need alignment, it is helpful to be able to identify a few bright stars - for example: Vega, Arcturus, Deneb, Polaris and Spica in the summer sky. You must also align the red-dot finder to the telescope. This can be done during daylight using a distant object (e.g. a telephone pole or radio tower). The red-dot finder helps you to get the chosen star in the eyepiece so that you can accurately center it during alignment.

The telescope has a collapsible optical tube that easily extends for viewing and then collapses for easy storage or transport. The 130 mm (5 inch) mirror provides good views of stars, double stars, planetary nebulas, nebulas and the brighter galaxies. The unit is a "table-top" design, so you will need a sturdy table to place the telescope base on. The optimum table height will depend on how tall the user is.

The total weight of the telescope mounted on the base is approximately 17.5 pounds. This does not include the weight of the table that you use to place the device on.

The telescope requires power to operate. You can use 8 AA batteries (not supplied; you must provide the batteries). You may also use a stable 12V battery such as a deep cycle marine battery with appropriate cables and adaptors (also not supplied).
