One of the main goals of the Mt.Shasta Astronomy Club is to promote the understanding and enjoyment of astronomy among the general public. We are active in outreach activities that involve all sectors of the public. Through our once-monthly Public Meetings (both in-person at the Mt Shasta Library and via ZOOM), we introduce our local community to the wonder and enjoyment of the night sky. In an age where television, video games and the Internet dominate the free time of many people (in particular, young people), the Mt. Shasta Astronomy Club provides an alternative to experience first-hand the awe-inspiring beauty of the natural world around us and to gain an understanding of how it operates. Occasional star parties (in spring, summer and fall, depending on weather) provide the opportunity for everyone to experience the night sky through a variety of different telescopes and binoculars.
Mt. Shasta Astronomy Club volunteers freely contribute their time to these educational and outreach activities but, in addition to this personal commitment, additional resources are often needed. The costs of things like ZOOM subscriptions and liability insurance for public events even, in fact, hosting this website — make up a significant portion of our annual budget. Our club's annual income is modest, coming mainly from the dues paid by our Members. So, any additional source of funds can have a significant beneficial impact on the operations of the Club. Donations that might seem trivial to larger organizations can be important to the Mt. Shasta Astronomy Club!
Any amount is welcome. But if you contribute $20 or more, you will be added to our member's list. You will receive the quarterly magazine of the Astronomical Society (the "Reflector") and be eligible to use the club's loaner telescopes.
The easiest way to send your contribution is by using Zelle. Zelle is a bank-developed system that is available at virtually all US banks. It is absolutely free for everyone - for you the sender and for us the receiver.
If you haven't already set it up, use your banking app to connect to your bank and follow the directions for setting up the service.
Then, send your payment to:

If you prefer, you can send a check made out to:
We don't have a checking account for the club. Our local banks and credit unions all charge a monthly fee which would deplete our funds rapidly. That is why the check is made out to the club treasurer who maintains a separate ledger for the club.
We thank you very much for your generosity.
