We meet at the site of the old Nordic Center just about one mile below the parking lot at Castle Lake. This is a great spot with dark skies and an incredible view of the Milky Way. Don't miss this opportunity to view astronomical sights, look through a variety of telescopes, expand your knowledge of astronomy, and have a lot of fun! Everyone is invited. You don't need a telescope, but by all means, bring one if you have one. You don't need to be a member to attend - and, of course, the star party is Free!
Sunset for September 15th is 7:20 PM
As you are going up toward Castle Lake, watch for a clear area on the left. It is located about one mile below the Castle Lake Parking Lot. If you get to Castle Lake, you have gone too far. The road leading to this spot is paved - if you take a dirt road you have taken a wrong turn. Stay on the paved road until you come to the observing location.
INFO FOR THOSE BRINGING A TELESCOPE: Please arrive early so that you can set up safely. For those bringing a Dobsonian 'scope, you might want to consider a ground tarp to protect the base. The ground is reasonably dry - but you never know.
I'm not sure what the elevation is - but it has to be close to 6000 ft. So - it will get cool after sunset. Be prepared and bring warm clothes. As usual, a red-filtered flashlight will keep everyone's night vision peaked for the dim space objects we are trying to see.
